Three Wrong Things Christians Do On Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the middle of February to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine’s death or burial. It probably occurred around A.D. 270. It usually takes place on the 14th of every year.
St. Valentine was the Bishop of Terni (Italy). During Emperor Claudius II reign, no single man was allowed to get marry. Because Claudius believed that single men made better soldiers than those who were married.
Contrary to the decree, Valentine secretly conducted marriages for young lovers. When Claudius discovered St. Valentine’s secret action, he ordered that he should be put to death.
Information On Wikipedia
On February 14, 269 AD, Valentine was beheaded because of his Christian faith. Valentine’s Day is named for the martyred Christian saint named Valentine. He was a bishop that married forbidden couples.
Since the 14th century, Valentine’s pairs are formed in England. English emigrants then took the Valentine’s custom to the United States. After World War II, US soldiers brought this festival to Europe.
More so, it is the day lovers show love to each other by sharing and receiving gifts.
For Christians, it is not abysmal for us to join others in celebrating the day of love. Besides, God’s Word enjoins us to love each other.
Here Are The 3 Wrong Things People Do On Valentine’s Day
• Fornication On Valentine’s Day
Read this passage carefully;
1 Corinthians 6:18-20What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
Sadly, a lot of unmarried people see the day of Valentine as a day set aside to have sex. No matter what the world says, sex before marriage is still a sin before God.
Despite the fact that the world advocate the use of contraceptives for young lovers. The Word of God says that we should avoid fornication.
Many youth lose their virginity on the Valentine’s day. Again, this year, many are planning to lose their virginity.
As a lady, never allow any man trick you. Avoid the appearance of evil.
Stop staying alone with a man you are not married to. Do not be ignorant of devil’s devices.
However, married people are free to enjoy themselves and have sex with no sense of guilt.
• Excessive Pleasure
1 Timothy 5:6
But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.
It is not bad for one to have fun and enjoy the day of love. However, it is wrong for one to have excessive pleasure.
There are people who go clubbing and drink to a stupor on that day. This contradicts the purpose of Valentine. Its purpose is to show love to everyone.
Having excessive pleasure is one of the wrong things people do on Valentine’s day. Never forget your faith in Christ. A man who I given to pleasure is a dead man. Excessive pleasure is a proof of deadness to the things of God.
(3) Expecting To Receive Without Giving
Interestingly, some Christians only expect to receive gifts from their lovers without reciprocating. The Bible says Give and it shall be given into you.
So, having a sense of entitlement is not proper. Do everything to bless people on this day. As you receive gifts from your loved ones, you are to give back to people.
Don’t be a parasite who only eat without trying to be of benefit to others. Be like God who showed His love to us by sending His dear son to us. It’s a day of giving! It’s a day or receiving! But make sure you give.
