Spiritual Gifts: Six Basic Truth About Spiritual Gifts
Basically, spiritual gift is a supernatural enablement given to a Christian in order to function in the body of Christ. It is also a supernatural endowment that makes a believer be of benefit to the Church.
However, there is no spiritual gift that is greater than the other. The gift of healing is not greater than the gift of teaching. All these gifts are given for edification of the Body of Christ.
Nevertheless, we shall consider 6 basic facts about Spiritual Gift.
Rudiments Of Spiritual Gift
• Firstly, Spiritual Gifts Come By Grace Not By Effort
Having then gifts differing according to the GRACE THAT IS GIVE TO US, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
Honestly, they are not what you acquire by learning. They are given directly by God. And they are not gotten through intensive effort. You may love the gift of prophecy and may not have it. Because it is God who determines who He gives His gift to.
Grace is the determinant of the distribution of gift before God. Spiritual gifts are graciously given to people. That is why one believer can have many spiritual gifts. Don’t be jealous of him because they are divinely given to him.
• Also, They Are Not Natural Abilities Or Talents
Many people assume talents and spiritual gifts are the same. This assertion is not true.
Talents are natural endowment given to every human being irrespective of one’s religion. However, spiritual gifts are given to people who have given their lives to Christ.
An unbeliever can have talent and he or she can use it to make money for himself/herself. But spiritual gift is not for making money. They are given for edification of the saints.
• These Gifts Are Not Given For Show-off Or Boasting
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, NOT TO THINK OF HIMSELF MORE HIGHLY than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Before the Apostle Paul wrote about Spiritual gifts in Romans Chapter 12. He made sure he wrote about humility. Because Spiritual gift can get its carrier puffed up.
As a believer, you don’t use your spiritual gifts to boast. You are not expected to begin to exhort yourself by mentioning the arrays of gifts that you have. No Christian is supposed to be bragging, boasting or showboating his or her spiritual gift.
• God’s Gifts Are Not Given For Extortion
1 Corinthians 12:7
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. (NIV)
Most importantly, God does not give His gifts to believers in order for them to make money. Spiritual gifts are not given to Christians for extortion or exaction.
Whereas, these gifts are given for the common good of the Body of Christ.
You may have the gift of healing. But that doesn’t mean you should be charging people before you can pray for them. Use your gifts freely, for freely you have been given.
• They Are Given To Prove God’s Presence
Please, read this passage;
1 Corinthians 14:24-25And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
Believers carry God within them. So, they automatically have the presence of God. But unbelievers are oblivious of this mysterious truth, they there by demand proofs.
Therefore, these gifts will make unbelievers to tremble and shudder as their secrets are laid bare through God’s gift. At last, they are left with no option than to say, “God dwells in our midst.”

• For Bearing Fruits
Luke 13:6-7Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
Let’s use the gifts God gave us to bear more fruits. God will not endow you with these gifts and still not have the opportunity to win more soul for God.
Carefully utilize God’s gifts upon your life and you shall receive the crown of glory on that day.
Although, your gifts may not automatically win souls for Christ. But they will captivate the attention of unbelievers in order to listen to the gospel.
Once you’ve captivated their attention. Preach to them and show them God’s love. And let the Spirit of the Lord convict their heart.
