Seven Reasons Why You Should Not Take Revenge
Revenge is something you do in order to punish someone who has harmed or offended you.
Also, revenge is also any form of personal retaliatory action against an individual, institution, or group for some perceived harm or injustice.
Sometimes, when someone offends us or cheat us, we are often poised to take revenge. This is not biblical.
God is the best avenger, we should allow him to do His work.
However, in God’s Word we are not allowed to take revenge. God speaks against this act in His Word.
Here are the seven reasons why you should not take revenge.
No Revenge 1
• You Put Yourself In God’s Position
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, VENGEANCE IS MINE; I WILL REPAY, saith the Lord.
Vengeance is mine, says the Lord. When a man decides to take revenge, he is putting himself in God’s position. He’s helping God to do His work.
Such person is telling God, ‘You can’t do this very well’. God did not tell you to do His work. He is the most capable.
God knows the best way to take vengeance because that’s His duty. Anytime you take revenge, you’re trying to sit in God’s seat, to do His work.
And it’s not possible for any man to usurp God. Lucifer wanted to try this and he lost his position. So, stop it. Leave room for wrath.
• For You Not To Become An Evildoer
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.
Basically, by the time you want to try to repay evil for evil, you can totally turn to an evildoer.
See, that’s why it’s good to do good all the time. Some people have become an evildoer in the process of trying to take revenge.
A lot of them have committed atrocities which they never wanted to commit before.
Some have killed human being during the process.
While evil has been the way of life of some people because they want to take revenge.
More so, that’s why you need to allow God take vengeance.
• One May Be Left Alone To Fight One’s Battle
1 Samuel 2:9
He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for BY STRENGTH SHALL NO MAN PREVAIL.
Once you’ve decided to fight your battles alone. God will decide to leave you alone to fight your battles.
Guess what? You can’t win that battle. After taking revenge, you’ll have to blame yourself for doing that.
Your strength cannot give you any victory. Even it you were cheated and you want to repay evil for evil.
Again, God will leave you alone to do this as He cannot override the will of man. But you will find yourself to blame afterwards.
As a matter of fact, you may lose at the end of your revengeful decision.
• So That You Will Not Disobey His Word
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
The whole thing about revenge is you will try to pay back evil for evil. And God’s Word is against it.
Expressly, if you try to take revenge, you will find yourself disobeying God’s Word. You don’t have to be revengeful for you not to disobey His Word.
• For You Not To Incur God’s Wrath Upon Yourself
For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
God is always against planners and perpetrators of evil. He won’t say because you’re trying to be revengeful and He’ll now leave you alone.
No, God will continually fight against anyone who want to do His duty.
Definitely, you can provoke God’s anger by doing what He’s supposed to do.
Allow God to do His work.
• To Allow God To Properly Deal With That Person
Hebrews 10:30-31It is a FEARFUL THING TO FALL INTO THE HANDS OF THE LIVING GOD.
For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
Certainly, If you leave room for God’s wrath. God will properly deal with that person because it is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of God.
My God will help you deal with that person beyond the punishment you feel you can inflict upon him/her. Because that’s his duty.
Biblically, vengeance belongs to the Lord. Let the Lord judge people.
Don’t think you can properly deal with that person who has offended you.
Only God can deal with him/her properly.
• God Is Incapable To Carry Out His Work
For we know him that hath said, VENGEANCE BELONGETH UNTO ME, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
By being revengeful you are telling God that He is incapable to do His work. You assume God is incapable and ineffective.
For instance, when do you come in to do someone’s work? When you know that person is not doing his work effectively.
Also, that’s what you do when you take revenge.
Biblical ways to take revenge
• Continue To Help That Person
Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
Provide food for him/her if he/she needs it. By so doing, you’re heaping a coal of fire on him/her.
Additionally, be like Joseph, who decided to take care of his brothers when they came to him for help.
• Pray To God For Justice
And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
You can pray to God for justice to take place.
Remember to say this every day in prayer. Since you are not allow to personally take revenge.
Just pray to God and remind Him every time and He will do the needful.
The best thing to do is to pray to God to do His work. God bless you as you do.
