Five Bad Habits That Can Turn You To A Sluggard

How To Know You Are A Sluggard

Many of us can easily affirm and say ‘I am not a sluggard,’ but it is surprising that many of us fall under the category of those we refer to as ‘Sluggards’.

Do not just conclude that you are hardworking. There are certain features sluggard possess that you also possess which have also made you to be one.

I’m not here to castigate or condemn anyone.

But I am here to show you from God’s Word, what a sluggard does. And how he can change to be a better person.

Powerful Prayers For The Month Of September

Firstly, a sluggard is not someone who does nothing. Someone who does nothing is an idle person.

However, a sluggard is someone who does only what is convenient for him.

He shuns whatever will give him stress and go for the less stressful job even if it means losing a whole lot of money.

A sluggard will work, but will do it sluggishly. That’s dictionary definition. Now, let’s see it from God’s Word.

What God Does To You Through Your Dream

Sluggard habit 1

He/she gives excuses

Someone once said that excuse is the foundation upon which failure is built.

Proverbs 22:13 says;
The sluggard says, “There’s a lion outside! I’ll be killed in the public square!”

One can easily identify the sluggard by the nothingness and the senselessness inherent in his excuses.

When you tell him to invest in a business in order to be independent.

He may tell you; “Well, I may die tomorrow, so, I cannot allow another person to reap what I have sown.”

This man in the Proverbs 22:13 says there is a lion outside, he did not want to be killed by that lion.

In like manner, a sluggard will tell you he can’t go to work, so that he will not have accident.

Possibly, he will furnish you with the information of how people who have gone to work have died.

He will tell you he cannot work hard, so that he will not die early.

My friend, are you not also found of giving excuses when it is time to do something worthwhile?

If yes, you are a sluggard.

Sluggard habit 2

He/she over sleeps

Anyone who sleeps excessively is a sluggard.

Yes, it is good to take rest but its abuse means slothfulness.

Hiding under the guise of taking rest to sleep like someone who is in sleeping competition is slothfulness.

Proverbs 19:15 says;
Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry.”
Laziness has a way of prompting deep sleep.

So, if you sleep too much. Do not be bothered, it is another bad habits.

He leaves everything unkempt:

Proverbs 24:30-31 has the best description;

“:I went past the field of a sluggard, past the vineyard of someone who has no sense; thorns had come up everywhere, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall was in ruins.”

You can easily identify a sluggard when you enter his room.

Such person will scatter everything around even his sitting room will be littered without him cleaning it up.

Also, his clothes are rumpled, hairs are left unkempt and his shoes unpolished.

That is how the Bible described a sluggard. Avoid this bad habit.

11 Habits That Will Make You Keep Your House Clean And Tidy

• He wants to reap where he has not sown:

Proverbs 20:4 says;
do not plow in season; so at harvest time they look but find nothing.”
The sluggard is someone who wants to reap where he has not sown.

Such person has not invested hugely in business but he wants to reap huge sum of money.

To be frank, he knows he has not invested his time and efforts on his children.

But he wants to have wonderful, obedient and God-fearing children.

He will not plant when others are planting but hopes to reap from what others have planted.

My friend, avoid this bad habit.

How To Know You Are In A Wrong Relationship

•He does only what is convenient

“9 :How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?
10:A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—
11:and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.”- Proverbs 6:9-11.

Is sleeping not convenient? Its so convenient. You just need to get a bed and lay down and sleep.

So, a sluggard prefers whatever is not adventurous, difficult and cumbersome.

If God appears to him and tells him to go to villages to preach, he will not go there.

He would rather go back to God in prayers and tell him that he would prefer a civilized place to preach the gospel. Change now!

All these habits will not make you achieve great things in life. Avoid them.

PRAYER; Lord help me in my struggle to overcome slothfulness.

May I not waste my years through laziness and slothfulness!
